screened in the AFRICA WORLD DOCUMENTARY FILM FESTIVAL.
The festival took place in St. Louis, Missouri and in Bridgetown, Barbados from February 26
to Mid-March 2009. Birth of the Sun screened on Saturday, February 28 at 12:30 PM.

Slavery and Civil Rights Museum
"Birth of the Sun", and "Welcome to Batey 6, directed by Emmanuel Alexandre jr.
screened at the Annual Bridge Crossing Jubilee in Selma, Alabama. The event is held in the first
full weekend of every March to commemorate “Bloody Sunday", the March from Selma-to-Montgomery,

New Filmmakers Spring Festival, which takes place at the
historical and independent Anthology Cinema on East 2nd Street in the East Village. You can download

Grady Alexis lived at El Taller Latino Americano from 1986 until his death in 1991. Much of that
time was at the Russian Orthodox Church on East 2nd Street, a few doors from the Anthology
Cinema. There will be a screening of Birth of the Sun at El Taller Latino Americano on the Upper
West Side on Friday evening, April 17, 2009.

Also screening will be "Welcome to Batey 6", a 20 minute documentary written and directed by Emmanuel
Alexandre jr. and shot by Kemah Keita-Diouf. The film offers an intimate look into the lives of Haitian
sugarcane cutters and the effects on their families and the local culture. Additionally, there will be a screening
of excerpts from a new documentary about El Taller Latino Americano.
